For Parents:
- Students will have access to this reading and comprehension program throughout the summer.
- Students should have finished Level J by their entry into Grade 2.
- This program is good practice for working on a computer, as well as preparation for EOG's in Grade 3.
- The modeled reading helps students build reading fluency, showing them rhythm, emphasis and expression.
- Listening to the story being read--without seeing it--can help to build listening strategies. You can then ask your child to draw what might happen at the end, before they hear the last page read.
- Listening comprehension is linked to reading comprehension.
- Covering the drawings can help students focus on the words.
- If your child is having difficulty with words, find the word in the drawing, decode the word first, then work on reading the sentence.
RAZ Kids progression: Levels D-J correspond to Grade 1.
